Fairfield Mortgage was formed in December 1992 by individuals representing over seventy-five years of collective experience in the mortgage industry. Many of these individuals had worked at Decatur Federal, the largest Savings and Loan in the State of Georgia.
Our company has the unique distinction of being both a mortgage banker and a mortgage broker. We have small company "soul" and small company "speed" with the resources of a large bank (our parent company, Shelter Mortgage). We also represent over 30 different investors, which enables us to offer competitive products at competitive rates.

The History of Fairfield
The first Fairfield Mortgage was organized in July 1983 between Fairfield Corporation of Augusta (GA) and Decatur Federal Savings and Loan. This relationship was formed to originate and deliver first mortgage loans to Decatur Federal Savings and Loan. The concept proved to be an excellent method of expanding Decatur Federal’s mortgage origination market allowing Decatur Federal to open seven additional locations in the Southeast.
In 1992, Decatur Federal entered into an agreement to sell to First Union. Prior to completion of the acquisition, Decatur Federal sold its ownership interest in the Fairfield to Shelter Mortgage, F.S.B. located in Milwaukee, WI. Shelter’s purchase involved only the Fairfield offices in Georgia. Simultaneous to their acquisition, Fairfield Mortgage Associates of Atlanta opened.
